Brief History

Formed in early 1996 in Western Sydney by four like-minded friends, the Compadres were launched quietly, with no back patch’s and even less fanfare. Originally the club had no name, they were just four friends, three on Japanese bikes and one on a Harley who sought a deeper meaning to their lives – lives that had been touched by the almighty.

As more people were drawn to their easy going yet almost ‘outlaw’ appearance, the consideration of a name was tossed about amongst the now ten members. “We had some really strange names on the table at one time,” said Bozzo, the now retired president and only original member that warranted lifetime membership status. “It did take a while, we wanted something that meant something to everyone – I can’t even remember who it was that came up with Compadres, all I can remember was he was a fan of some Texas hard rock band – he just thought Compadres said it all, A close friend or associate; a companion. You can’t have a closer friend than Jesus.”

So the latter part of 1996 saw a dozen members, each proudly wearing the top rocker and bottom rocker – the centre patch didn’t reach its (semi) final design until the end of ’97, a period that most of us would prefer to forget.
You may be asking why we’d prefer to be forgetting something that made us so proud, so I’ll tell you. Summer was coming (not that Oz has any real bad riding weather) and a number of members chose to go on an unsanctioned run which resulted in a brawl and some rather bad press (thankfully local) but nonetheless, bad press all the same. Said members were booted and the club went in to a hiatus.

It wasn’t long (2001) before the original four had become just one and six other members, three of the originals retiring. Bozzo retiring in 2002 after being beaten by some members (noms as it turns out or as the story goes) from an outlaw(?) club that thought it would be fun to beat on a Christian biker – this club has since disbanded, themselves.

Fast forward to 2004 and the club was re-launched (although it have never really ceased to exist), with the same top and bottom rocker but the original centre patch being slightly modified – the nails having distinctive pointed (instead of) flattened heads and the inclusion of the CMC and 1 GOD squares.
Where do we go from here? Only God knows, but one thing is for sure and that is we’re here to stay and to spread the good word.
God Bless

Many thanks must go to Bob Salazar aka Bozzo (r.i.p.) who after much soul searching decided to pass on the snippets of information.

Name Description & Why:
We chose to use the chiefly South-Western U.S. description of Compadres, which means:
A close friend or associate; a companion. And what better companion than our Lord Jesus Christ.
